Almost black-red in colour, this intense wine has a wide palette of tastes, including black currants, plums, brambles, tobacco, spices and vanilla. This special wine as a long lasting and powerful finish. The grapes are carefully pressed by hand! During the fermentation process the temperature is kept as low as possible. The wine is ripened for 14 months in new barrels made out of French oak wood and for 1 year after bottling. This results in an especially tasteful wine with character.
A flavoursome suggestion
An elegant partner for red meats and dishes with wild game. But for example also the Indian kitchen is very well suited with this wine. The wine has already fully matured, but will definitely gain in flavour over the next ten years.
About this wine
Bodegas Salentein has a special history. It was founded in 1992 by the Dutch entrepreneur Mijndert Pon (who became rich and famous dealing in Volkswagen automobiles). He decided to set up a vineyard high-up on one of the outer mountain ranges of the Andes.
The vineyards are situated in the heart of the Alto Valle de Uco, at a height of more than 1200 metres. De soil is rocky and this keeps the land well drained. The nights are cool due to the mountain air descending from the Andes, the days are sunny and warm. The grapes are harvested by hand and processed with the use of modern insights and the latest technology. Height, cool nights and warm sunny days give this wine a strong character. The entrepreneurship of the Pon family does the rest. A unique wine bodega with a world-wide success.
