How to say I love you: our original tips
Some people say ‘I love you’ every single day, others struggle to express their feelings. Why is that? Well, sometimes people find it difficult to allow themselves to be vulnerable, or have been in a relationship for a long time and started to take each other for granted. If you’re gearing up to say ‘I love you’ for the very first time, you may be finding it all a bit nerve-wracking, so we’ve listed some tips below to help you out.
Saying ‘I love you’ in a special way
Perhaps you’ve been together forever, and said it a million times already, or have been together for so long that you rarely ever say it these days. We think that’s a shame, because it’s especially important to stay connected when you’ve been together for a long time. It can be all too easy to start taking each other for granted and get stuck in a rut if you’re no longer expressing how happy you are to be with each other. So make it a priority to make an effort for each other, not just by saying ‘I love you’, but with actions, too. Cook your partner a delicious meal, book a romantic weekend away or have a cosy picnic in the park; whatever you do, make time for each other!
Saying ‘I love you’ for the very first time
What to do if you’re intending to tell someone you love them for the first time ever? When doing this, there is a chance that the other person won’t respond as you’d like them to. Does that mean you just shouldn't’ say it? We don’t think so, no! Because it’s not just lovely to hear that someone cares about you, it feels great to share your feelings. And if the other person just isn’t that into you, it’s much better to find out sooner rather than later. It will hurt, but at least you know where you stand. Hopefully, though, the other person will love you just as much as you love them. They may be taken aback by your words, so if they’re silent for a moment, don’t worry; give them some time.
When is the right time to say ‘I love you’
A very common question is when the right time is to express your love. Unfortunately, this isn’t a one size fits all kind of question, and will differ for each person and (potential) couple. Not everyone is ready in 3 months, or 6 months. Perhaps you and your partner will know you love each other in a matter of weeks, or even days. We do have a few tips to help you determine the right moment, especially if you haven’t been together very long:
- You love spending time with each other
- You enjoy spending time together in real life, as well as digitally
- The other person is there for you when you need them
- The other person pays attention to your needs
- You can see the joy in each other’s eyes when you’re together
- You have spent some extended time together and both look back on this with fondness
- You feel that the other person is as serious about you as you are about them
Creating the right atmosphere
If you’re planning to say ‘I love you’ for the first time, or want to remind your long-term partner that you’re still into them, select the right setting. Take them out for a romantic meal or, even better; cook them a delicious dinner. Take them for a romantic walk or a picnic in the park. Whatever you decide on, make sure it’s a space where you can pay attention to each other, so you know you your partner will hear you when you tell them how you feel.

If you’re ready to say ‘I love you’ for the first time, or to make it special after saying it lots and lots of times, check out our original ideas below. And don’t worry; if you’re not quite ready to tell them you love them, add your own message.
Tip #1: A perfect fit
One of the most original, fun ways to say ‘I love you’ is with a puzzle. You can make it nice and easy with a 120-piece puzzle, or challenge them with a 1000-piece puzzle. Upload your favourite photo and add a personal message. Have your special someone complete the puzzle without an example image, so the result is a surprise. You could even complete the puzzle together, a great way to spend more quality time together. If you’re looking for an original way to tell a guy you love him, we would recommend a puzzle
Tip #2: You’re my cup of tea
A true romantic gift for her is a fun personalised mug featuring your favourite photo and ‘I love you’ text. You can go for a regular mug, but we also have a lovely pink mug and a red mug on offer. If you’re looking for something even more special, select our mug with a heart-shaped handle , or add your photo and message to a magic mug and allow the design to appear when she fills the mug with her favourite hot drink.
Tip #3: I love you a choco-lot
Who doesn’t love chocolate? We are sure that anyone would be pleasantly surprised by a sweet chocolate message! Create a chocolate telegram, with each letter as an individual chocolate. There are various options available length-wise, so you can go for a short ‘I love you’, or a longer message. You could even scramble them, so your favourite person can figure out your message and be extra surprised. Another original idea is a personalised chocolate card featuring your photo and text of choice, or a personalised love-themed Milka chocolate gift box with 20 heart-shaped pralines. You can add your favourite photo to the box, along with one of our love-themed designs.
Tip #4: Send a wooden greeting card
You could send a classic paper greeting card, but we also offer a cool wooden version, onto which we can print your photo of choice. We have lots of cute designs available, with hearts and ‘I love you’ for example. You can also add a personal message, of course. The wooden greeting card includes a wooden stand, so your partner can display it if they wish.
Tip #5: Make plans together
If you’re not just looking to let them know how crazy you are about them, but want to make plans together too, give them a cute personalised notebook. Add a personal message on the first page, and explain that the notebook is for future plans. They can even use it to as a scrapbook, documenting your adventures together
Tip #6: A sweet, small gift
If you’re looking for a small and sweet gift to tell them you’re mad about them, have a key ring engraved with your favourite photo, or personalise a set of Christmas baubles. These are lovely gifts to give if you’re a new couple and you want to celebrate a small milestone in your relationship.
Tip #7: Big love
If you have biiiiiiiiig love for them, give them a great big teddy bear! Go for a 60cm mega bear or a 135cm giant bear. Each bear wears a t-shirt which can be personalised with the name or photo of your choice. We also have lots of smaller cuddly toys on offer, because remember; it’s the thought that counts when you love someone
Tip #8: Celebrate with champagne
